Northern Virginia Police Beat: Jeffrey Carter killed crossing parkway in dark; Pierpaolo Verrone charged with DUI

STERLING, VA.–  08/17/2014- According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, a Sterling, Virginia man lost his life after he was struck by a motorist who was driving under the influence of alcohol Friday night.

Around 10 PM the victim, Jeffrey A. Carter, 53, was attempting to cross Cascades Parkway, just south of Middlefield Drive, when he was struck by a northbound 2010 Ford Explorer. The driver remained on the scene.

The victim was taken to the Lansdowne Campus of Inova Loudoun Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver, Pierpaolo Verrone, 47, of Sterling, VA, was determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with DUI and remains held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

The crash remains under investigation by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.

 

Motorcyclist Dies in Fatal Crash

SPRINGFIELD, VA. — Fairfax County Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Braddock Road near the ramp to Fairfax County Parkway on Thursday, August 14.

A 1999 Honda motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Braddock Road, making a lefthand turn to exit onto the Fairfax County Parkway at around 6:30 p.m. As the driver turned, he collided with a 2004 Dodge van that was traveling westbound on Braddock Road. The motorcyclist, Edy Jimenez-Balderrama, 20, of Manassas was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he later died. The driver of the van was not injured.

The crash reconstruction unit is continuing to investigate the crash. No charges have been placed.
