<p>LEONARDTOWN, MD.– It’s been a hot time in the old Hotel St. Mary’s with another round of fights between inmates. On July 2, 2014, Deputy Manns responded to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center for a fight between inmates. The investigation revealed inmates Patrick James Hutching, 31, of Leonardtown, and Tyler Allen Messick, 22, of Leonardtown, engaged in several mutual fights during an extended period of time. Hutching and Messick were both charged with 2nd Degree Assault on fellow inmates.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Patrick James Hutching charged with attempted murder&#8230;for now.</h3>



<p><strong>A woman was attacked and left for dead with her throat slashed, say police, and just as in many other cases in recent years, the man’s alleged attack on his victim was not his first such violent abuse of his victim. </strong></p>



<p>Valley Lee, Maryland – According to the St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Department, the victim, identified as <strong>Bridgette Faye Hayden</strong>, 46, had been involved in an argument over the phone with her boyfriend identified as Patrick James Hutching, 31, of Leonardtown.</p>



<p>Police say that after the phone conversation, Hutching went to Hayden’s residence on Deerfield Lane, which is when the crime occurred. According to police, Hutching attacked Hayden with some sort of object, slashing her throat.</p>



<p>He later called a witness indicating he had seriously harmed Hayden.</p>



<p>The unidentified witness responded to Hayden’s residence and found her outside on the ground bleeding badly from a severe laceration to her neck. Police were called to the scene by the man sent there by Hutching.</p>



<p>No additional victims were located and Hutching was no longer on the scene.</p>



<p>Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 was unable to fly due to bad weather. Therefore, Hayden was initially transported to MEDSTAR St. Mary’s Hospital and stabilized. She was then transported to a nearby trauma center and underwent emergency surgery. Her prognosis is unknown at this time.</p>



<p>Hutching was located at a relative’s residence in Calvert County, Maryland. He was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault.</p>



<p>On November 13, 2013, Hutching was charged with assaulting Hayden and had been released on bond on November 17th .</p>



<p>Hutching had been involved with police on various criminal and traffic charges for most of his adult life. ; In addition to the November 17<sup>th</sup> assault on Hayden, Hutching had been charged on Nov. 27<sup>th</sup> with driving while suspended, one of numerous times he had been charged with that violation.</p>



<p>Charges of assault against Hutching had previously been dropped by St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz.</p>
