Roxana, Del. — 05/19/2014  – A 27-year-old Bethany Beach man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Pyle Center Road Saturday evening.
The crash occurred at 9:19 p.m. as a 2007 Honda Civic traveled north on the road, north of the intersection with Frankford School Road. An initial investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and, upon encountering a slight left curve in the roadway, entered the southbound lane.
In an apparent attempt to return to the northbound lane, the driver turned sharply to the right and lost control of the vehicle. It rotated clockwise while traveling northward, and left the right side of the roadway. The vehicle continued traveling north and its driver’s side struck and severed a utility pole.
The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. He was properly restrained at the time of the crash. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Pyle Center Road was closed for approximately three-and-a-half hours as the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated and cleared the crash.
