The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has charged a 17 year old as an Adult with Attempted Murder.
Matthew Franklyn HASTY, 17, of Cascade, has been charged with 3 counts of Attempted 1st Degree Murder, 3 counts of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, 3 counts of 1st Degree Assault, 3 counts of 2nd Degree Assault and 1 count of Reckless Endangerment.
On April 16, 2014 at approximately 8:30 PM, Deputies responded to the area of Fort Richie Access Road and Buena Vista Road, Cascade, for shots fired.
When Deputies arrived in the area they heard additional gun shots being fired.
Deputies made contact with witnesses who heard several gun shots and then observed Hasty walking from the area with a long gun.
Deputies established a perimeter around the area and utilized the Maryland State Police Helicopter, along with grounds units, to search for Hasty.
Contact was also made with a man who stated he was driving north bound on Fort Richie Access Road, when he observed a white male standing in the roadway. As the man slowed his vehicle down, the male turned around, pointed a gun at him and fired one shot. The shot struck the vehicle but no one in the vehicle was injured. In addition to the driver, two young children were in the vehicle during the incident.
The Washington County Special Response Team located Hasty inside a residence and took him into custody.
Hasty was transported to Central Booking for processing.
