BUDDS CREEK — Police report that on October 3, 2013, at approximately 7:40 PM patrol units from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Budds Creek Road and Maryland International Raceway for the report of a motor vehicle accident. Police say their investigation revealed a 2008 Ford F350 operated by James Webster Tayman 3rd , age 28, of Mechanicsville, Maryland was traveling west on Budds Creek Road.
Several subjects, including Johnny Durtche, age 51, of Dumfries, Virginia were attempting to push a golf cart across Budds Creek Road from Maryland International Raceway. The golf cart and other subjects stopped in the roadway due to oncoming traffic; however, Durtche continued into the path of Tayman’s vehicle and was struck.
Durtche was pronounced dead on the scene.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be a contributing factor on the part of the driver. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Corporal William Watters #188 at (301) 475-4200 Ext. 9114.
