Calverton, Md. — Prince George’s County police are investigating a fatal police-involved shooting early Wednesday in the 3900 block of Lighthouse Way.

Police say around 2 a.m. officers had responded for unknown trouble. A preliminary investigation reveals that a 9-1-1 caller reported hearing a woman screaming “Get off me!” Police say a witness also reported hearing what he thought was a woman being struck.

Patrol officers arrived within one minute of receiving the call. Once on scene, police say one of the patrol officers jumped two fences and a drainage ditch to reach the victim.

As the officer approached, the suspect began to flee. The officer chased the man for about a quarter mile in the dark near the woods.

When the officer caught up with him, police say he was approaching a fence. The preliminary investigation, police say, indicates the suspect refused to obey multiple commands from the officer. Fearing for his life, police say the officer discharged his gun. The suspect was struck and killed. Police say no weapons were recovered from the scene.
