2023 Update Information
Sept. 13, 2013 — According to police, on September 6, 2013, detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office received notification of suspected child sexual abuse from the St. Mary’s County Department of Social Services involving a minor child.
The investigation by detectives revealed on August 28, 2013 suspect, William Clay Roberts Wilson, age 45, of California, Maryland, engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with a minor child, eight years of age, who was known to the suspect. Wilson was taken into custody without incident, charged with a 4th Degree Sex Offense, Sexual Abuse to a Minor, and incarcerated in the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
At trial, Wilson’s mother, Jan Nave Barnes, a real estate agent in California, Md., who had posted bond for Wilson when he was arrested, asked Circuit Court Judge Sean Wallace to show leniency, claiming her son had been drinking and didn’t know what he was doing.
Judge Wallace not only didn’t buy that lame line from Barnes but noted that Wilson had attempted to lure a child from a school bus stop in Wildewood into his vehicle in 2005 and on Oct. 29, 2014, increased the sentence for Wilson to serving nine years in prison.
As of Aug. 2, 2019, Wilson is incarcerated at the Dorsey Run State Prison in Jessup, Md.
Wilson is a registered sex offender in Maryland for life.
