FORT WASHINGTON, MD. — Police say that three men who knew each other conducted a shoot-out in Fort Washington leaving one of them dead and another seeking treatment for bullet wounds. The wounded man and the other survivor were both charged with murder.
MARDELA SPRINGS, MD. — Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis reports the arrest of two men who managed to smile for the camera when they broke into a home. The advent of inexpensive cameras for use at catching nannies smacking kids or deer walking on trails is also spreading to homes everywhere that burglars like to rob.
An earlier criminal charge of drug distribution for incidents which allegedly took place on Nov. 21, 2010 resulted in the Cecil County States Attorney dropping the charges on Sept. 9, 2011. Smith had been arrested by Rising Sun Police Officer First Class Dan Stickney. Following filings by the Public Defender for the prosecution to provide access to the state chemist to validate the alleged drugs, a motion for a speedy trial and for discovery of evidence, and the Cecil prosecutors folded and dropped the charges.
On Nov. 15, 2011, Smith and Engelberth and a third co-defendant were charged by Maryland State Trooper Chad E. Warner with burglary, rogue and vagabond and theft by warrant in District Court for incidents dating from Oct. 31, 2011 to Nov. 1, 2011. The case was forwarded to Circuit Court for a jury trial and Smith was represented by another Public Defender, E. B. Fockler IV. (See above)
The most recent criminal charges against Smith prior to the murder charges, came on Sept. 9, 2014 when he was charged in Cecil County District Court with five criminal charges including theft, credit card theft, theft by counterfeit, identity theft and use of another’s credit card. The charges were placed by Detective William Sewell. A trial date is set for Dec. 8, 2014.
(August 25, 2014) – According to Ocean City Maryland Police, on August 24, 2014, at approximately 3:12 a.m. Ocean City police were dispatched to area of 109 North Atlantic Avenue to assist Ocean City EMS, for a victim of an assault that had already occurred. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male that was unconscious and unresponsive in the parking lot of an area hotel.
First responders from the Ocean City Police and Fire Departments initiated emergency lifesaving procedures on the victim and transported him to Atlantic General Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The victim has been identified as Justin Daniel Cancelliere, 37, North Whitehall, PA.
SALISBURY, MD. — The violent invasion of the home of Donald G. “Donnie” Mariner on April 16,, 2014 by one or more suspects ended with the death of Mariner and the brutal beating of another resident of the home. Now an arrest has been made in that murder.
The Maryland State Police have released sketchy details about the day of the murder but to date have yet to identify the other victim, fearing for that man’s safety.
