The investigation indicated a 2008 Ford Explorer had run into the rear of a 2007 Mercedes S550. The Mercedes had been stopped at the traffic light.
About a month into the ongoing investigation, on Oct. 20, police were notified by Shock Trauma that the pedestrian victim from the collision, Robert Dukehart, had died as a result of his injuries.
The operator of the Volkswagen Passat sustained serious injuries, and it is unknown if he was properly restrained. He was declared deceased at the collision scene.
The pedestrian, Peter Palm, 62, of Alexandria, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries initially. His condition worsened and he died on November 19, 2016.
