<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">WALDORF, MD. &#8212; The time, place, and method of doing the business of selling drugs are bound to cause a drug dealer to get ulcers, at least until his mouthpiece can spring him from the slammer. One thing that this drug dealer didn’t learn at the special summer camp for drug dealers was how to evade capture when fleeing from police in the snow.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Charles County Sheriff Troy Berry reports that on January 4 at 1:30 a.m., officers were in the area of St. Charles Parkway and Gateview Place in Waldorf handling a traffic crash when they heard gunshots. Officers responded to the area where they heard the shots and discovered fresh footprints in the snow.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">At the same time, a citizen called 9-1-1 reported hearing gunshots and saw two male suspects in the area. The citizen took a picture of the suspects and provided a description to officers. Officers followed the footprints, which led to a nearby house.</span></p>

Kavon DeSales Dorsey, 24, of 3918 Northgate Place, Waldorf, Md., was charged with reckless endangerment, first-degree assault, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute illegal drugs, and other related charges. A 15-year-old male was also charged in this case. PFC S. Hooper is investigating.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;"> To add insult to injury, the hapless taxpayers of Maryland will have to pay for his lawyer, as even though he has the ill-gotten gains of a drug dealer, he qualifies for a public defender.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The farcical idea that the public is protected from violent offenders in Maryland is reinforced by the outcome of burglary and arson charges in Charles County Circuit Court filed against Dorsey for crimes committed on July 17, 2011. In an Alford Plea filed on June 7, 2012, Dorsey was sentenced to 20 years in prison on the conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary. The arson charge was dropped.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">All of the sentence was suspended except for one year. Dorsey was given credit for time served of 32 days in the Charles County jail and five years of probation.</span></p>
