UPDATE: Charles County Sheriff’s detectives have released additional information relating to the domestic-related quadruple shooting that occurred on March 23. At 8:07 p.m., officers responded to 3305 Westdale Court in Waldorf for multiple calls for the sound of gunshots and a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a woman, 36, outside with multiple gunshot wounds. They received information that the shooter – the woman’s husband – was inside along with their two children.  Officers made a quick, tactical entry and immediately found the suspect, Carlton Goodwin, 37, of that address, deceased on the living room floor; a gun was beside him and he had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers continued searching the house and located the couple’s daughter, Laila Goodwin, 4, in an upstairs bedroom; she was deceased. Another daughter, Lashelle Goodwin, 17, was located in the upstairs bathroom suffering from several gunshot wounds. She was flown to a hospital where she later died. Their mother was flown to a hospital with serious injuries. The initial investigation revealed Goodwin shot his wife and daughters and then turned the gun on himself. Investigators are working to establish a motive, but at this time it is unclear what prompted the shootings. Det. J. Elliott is investigating.

WALDORF, MD. – A Charles County man is dead, a female toddler also was slain and a woman and what may be her teenage daughter both were flown from the scene of a horrific and ghastly event that Charles County Sheriff’s detectives believe was a family domestic killing.

Charles County Sheriff Spokeswoman Diane Richardson told THE CHESAPEAKE TODAY that officers responded to a call at 3305 Westdale Court in Waldorf at 8:17 pm on March 23, 2017. The responding officers found a man dead of an apparent gunshot wound at the bottom of a flight of stairs. They also found an adult woman, believed to be his spouse and a teenage daughter suffering from gunshots. The two females were flown from the scene to a nearby hospital.

The toddler is believed to have been anywhere from three to four years of age and was pronounced dead at the scene, also of a gunshot perhaps inflicted by the father.

Richardson said that the detectives have no reason to believe that the crime scene was a result of a home invasion or robbery.

The Office of the Medical Examiner in Baltimore will conduct autopsies on the deceased and detectives will be interviewing the two wounded females should they survive in order to complete an investigation.
