<p>In a plea deal with then <strong>Calvert County States Attorney Andrew Rappaport</strong>, Lindsay Canter was able to skip any meaningful prison time for the reckless and intentional highway mayhem that ended the life of the man who had jilted her, spending only 18 months in the Calvert County Jail. In a plea deal agreed to by the prosecutor during his brief tenure between being elected States Attorney and appointed Circuit Court Judge of Calvert County, Canter was sentenced to seven years in prison with all of the prison time suspended except for eighteen months. Canter pleaded guilty to manslaughter by motor vehicle in the deal with Rappaport, who was saved the trauma of actually having to put on a trial. On Sept. 15, 2017, the deal also included a four year sentence for failing to remain at the scene of a crash. The entire four year term in prison was suspended.</p>

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">LUSBY, MD. Calvert Sheriff’s Captain Todd Ireland reports that Medstar St. Mary&#8217;s Hospital nurse Lindsay Canter, of Lexington Park, intentionally struck the Nissan operated by her ex-boyfriend she had been racing on Rt. 4 resulting in the Mustang going out of control and killing the driver; and with fleeing the scene.  ;Posts on her Facebook page assert that she had been stalking the man after their relationship ended.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">On December 15, 2016, at approximately 1:32 a.m. units from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the area near the intersection of Maryland Route 4 and Rousby Hall Road in Lusby, Maryland for a report of a motor vehicle collision. ;</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Preliminary investigation revealed a 2012 Ford Mustang and 2009 Nissan 370 Z were both traveling northbound on Maryland Route. ; As the vehicles entered the intersection of Rousby Hall Road the Ford Mustang struck the Nissan 370 Z in the rear causing the Nissan to go off the roadway and into an embankment. ; Once off the road the Nissan rolled and came to final rest on its roof. ; After the collision, the operator of the Ford Mustang, later identified as <strong>Lindsay Leanne Canter</strong>, 32, of Lexington Park, Maryland failed to remain on the scene of the collision. ; The Mustang was located by CCSO Patrol Bureau deputies and subsequently was stopped a short time later in close proximity to the crash scene.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The operator of the Nissan was identified as <strong>Ronald Joseph Bal</strong>l, 32, of Huntingtown, Maryland. Ball was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by CMH ER Staff. ;</span></p>

Ireland reports that Calvert County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Bureau detectives followed up with several interviews throughout the course of the day on December 15, 2016. During the interviews, detectives learned that the suspect in this case, Lindsay Leanne Canter, intentionally struck Ball’s vehicle. The two vehicles had been racing north on Rt. 4 prior to Carter deciding to make contact with Ball’s vehicle. Based upon the information learned during the interviews with Canter she was charged with DUI homicide by motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash and numerous other DUI related charges. ;</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Lindsay Leanne Canter, of 21276 Mayfaire Lane, in Lexington Park, Md., was charged with negligent manslaughter while under the influence as well as homicide by Calvert Deputy T. Mohler.</span></p>

Court records show that her DUI arrest was related to a collision while she operated a 2012 Chevy. ; She entered a guilty plea on Aug. 8, 2014, in a plea deal with St. Mary’s County States Attorney Richard Fritz and was given Probation Before Judgement with sixty days in jail and all of the jail time suspended. The plea deal also provided for her to pay a fine of $192.50.</span></p>

If you are hosting or attending a party be sure those that are consuming alcoholic beverages do not get behind the wheel of a vehicle and kill or seriously injure themselves or someone else.”</span></p>
