<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">UPPER MARLBORO, MD. &#8212; Breaking up is hard to do for gay couples just like straight ones and the end result is often murder or something else; such as one party blowing another to Kingdom Come as an alleged home invasion takes place. Such a broken relationship ended with one man dead and another man facing possible charges as the shooting took place in the liberal paradise of PG County Maryland. In any other place, the homeowner would likely be given an award.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Craig Ivan Corbin Jr. didn’t get the message on July 12, 2012 for an alleged domestic violence rap as the complainant failed to appear in court and the charge was dismissed in Prince Georges County District Court. Another domestic violence order against Corbin was sought by an alleged victim on July 2, 2013 as the relationship between the two men further deteriorated. A Prince Georges County Judge dismissed the case. On the same date, a peace order instructing Corbin to stay away from a residence, to not abuse, not contact and stay away from the victim’s employment was approved.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The pair had yet another dispute spill over into Prince Georges County courtrooms as Rodney Scales filed suit against Corbin with claims of medical expenses. Again, a Prince Georges County Judge denied the claim by Scales on June 22, 2015 citing that the claim included medical expenses, according to court records.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The lover’s quarrels between the two men continued to get into courtrooms, with Scales a defendant and charged with assault by Corbin on July 13, 2013. Scales made bond with the help of former Sen. Tommie Broadwater and on Oct. 21, 2013 the charges were tossed by States Attorney Angela Alsobrooks.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">On July 6, 2015 Corbin, apparently unable to take a hint, was shot dead as he invaded Scales’ home located in a gated community near Upper Marlboro. One person inside the home told THE CHESAPEAKE TODAY that Corbin had made calls to the residence and had threatened to come to the home and kill everyone inside. With prior notice followed up by breaking into the residence, Corbin evidently was in the process of carrying out his threat when he was stopped by gunfire.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The Prince George’s County Police Department reported that it is investigating an early morning fatal shooting in Upper Marlboro. The decedent is 30-year-old Craig Ivan Corbin, Jr. of the 3300 block of Dorithan Road in Baltimore.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Prince Georges Police report that at about 2:40 am, a man called 911 to report he had just shot someone who was breaking into his home. When patrol officers arrived, they found Corbin outside suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The preliminary investigation reveals the decedent had been shot while trying to climb into a window.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Police say that the resident, Scales, and the decedent, Corbin, “had a prior romantic relationship”.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">PG Police say that its investigators are working closely with the State’s Attorney Office, which will ultimately make a determination whether charges are filed in this case.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">On June 30, 2013, charges of assault and theft were placed against Corbin by Rodney Scales were filed in Prince Georges County District Court. On Oct. 18, 2013, the charges were dropped by Prince Georges County States Attorney Angela Alsobrooks.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Any further domestic violence orders against Corbin have now proven unnecessary due to his demise.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Court records show that Scales, with his residence listed at the address in Upper Marlboro, fought off a foreclosure action in 2013 with a suggestion of bankruptcy.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Scales was on the receiving end of a domestic violence allegation on Sept. 18, 2008 in District Court for Baltimore City. The court hearing was cancelled when the petitioner failed to appear.</span></p>
