<p>UPDATE &#8211; A driver who was wanted on an open warrant for driving without a license, won&#8217;t need one in the future as he cancelled his own future due to his own actions. As a trooper attempted to stop him, he fled at a high rate of speed, heading back to Prince Georges County and blasted through a red light where he could have killed an innocent person.</p>
<p>The trooper, following proper police training, slowed to a safe speed to assure that he would not collide with another vehicle. In the meantime, police report that the fleeing motorist had disappeared from the trooper&#8217;s vision. As the trooper continued onward on the highway, which is busy with traffic at all hours of the day and night, he found the wreckage of the vehicle.</p>
<p>On Sept. 24, 2009, Delonte Lee was arrested for possession of marijuana. The case came to court in Prince Georges County District Court on May 23, 2013 where the charge was put on the Stet Docket by States Attorney Angela Alsobrooks with no time and no fine.</p>
<p>On Dec. 13, 2009, the motorist who wouldn’t stop for the trooper, Delonte M. Lee, of 10303 Musket Court in Fort Washington, Md., entered a guilty plea in Charles County District Court for driving on a suspended license. He was given a probation before judgment and fined $50 on April 8, 2010.</p>
<p>On Feb. 22, 2014, Lee was stopped by a Prince George Officer at 3:22 am for displaying a tag on his vehicle which was not issued to that vehicle, likely meaning he also had no insurance had he hit someone. The Prince Georges County States Attorney Angela Alsobrooks dropped the charge in District Court on Oct. 27, 2014.</p>
<p>On July 16, 2014, he was stopped by a Prince Georges County Police Officer on Allentown Road at Old Branch Ave and charged with driving while suspended. He was found guilty in District Court and requested a jury trial on Nov. 12, 2014.</p>
<p>Lee apparently didn’t learn much about stopping for traffic signals when he was charged by a Prince Georges Officer on May 8, 2014. In Upper Marlboro District Court he got off easy when he entered a guilty plea on Jan. 28, 2015 in District Court in Prince Georges County and was fined $90.</p>
<p>More than a half dozen traffic other charges were pending a trial in Circuit Court set for May 15, 2015 in Upper Marlboro after he was stopped once again on Dec. 17, 2014 while operating on a suspended license in a 2000 Cadillac on Kennebes Street in Prince Georges County.</p>
<p>In spite of being a serial permit-less traffic scofflaw, the incredible Prince Georges County Court system allowed Lee to have joint custody of his child in a Domestic Relations Settlement conference held on Sept. 14, 2014. Judge Robert Mason ordered that both Lee and Bethea Lee would have joint legal custody of their minor child on an equal basis and that Delonte Lee be ordered to pay child support of $190 per month. The Judge either ignored or didn’t care that the child would be in danger in a motor vehicle with Delonte Lee or perhaps the child was old enough to have a drivers permit, pay for insurance and tags and abide by motor vehicle laws.</p>
<p>In any case, Berthea loses child support with the final act of Delonte Lee in crashing into a utility pole. However, she gains full custody of the child. The public will find the highways slightly safer with his demise.</p>
<p><strong><em><strong>This is the police update: </strong></em></strong></p>
<p>WALDORF, MD) – Maryland State Police have identified the driver who fled from a trooper in Charles County early yesterday morning which lead to his fatal crash.</p>
<p>The male driver is identified as Delonte Lee, 26, of Fort Washington, Maryland. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A search of the vehicle was conducted. No illegal contraband was located. Lee was found to have an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for a driving without a license. His driving privileges are currently suspended.</p>
<p>Around 1:00 a.m. Thursday morning, Lee refused to stop the 2005 Toyota Scion he was driving when a trooper attempted a traffic stop in the area of Route 301 and Acton Lane in Charles County. Lee proceeded through a steady red signal turning onto Acton Lane, continuing westbound and accelerating to elude the trooper. After loosing sight of the Scion, the trooper proceeded on Acton Lane where he located the vehicle on the right roadside where it struck a utility pole causing the vehicle to overturn.</p>
<p>Investigators from the State Police Crash Team responded to the scene to conduct a detailed investigation. They were assisted by troopers from the LaPlata Barrack, crime scene technicians and investigators from the Southern Maryland Criminal Enforcement Division.</p>
<p>Due to the severity of the crash, the destruction of the utility pole, and the amount of debris, troopers closed Acton Lane for several hours. Charles County Public Works personnel assisted with road closures.</p>
<p>Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to call the Maryland State Police LaPlata Barrack at (301) 392-1231. The Charles County States Attorney&#8217;s Office has been notified of the incident.</p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>DRIVER KILLED IN CRASH AFTER FLEEING FROM TROOPER</strong> </span></span> (WALDORF, MD) – Maryland State Police is investigating a fatal collision in Charles County after a vehicle fled from a trooper making a traffic stop early this morning.<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span> </span></span>The male driver is not being identified at this time, pending confirmation of his identity and notification of next of kin.</p>
<p>He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel from Charles County. His body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></span></span></p>

A trooper assigned to the LaPlata Barrack observed the Toyota traveling with a tag light out.</p>
