Police remind citizens to always designate a sober driver or refrain from drinking alcohol if they will be driving. If you see a suspected drunken driver on the road, call 911.

The Angel with a Badge Saved Life of Teacher

COLUMBIA, MD. – Howard Count Police report that an officer delivered a life-saving performance in saving the life of a high school teacher.

Police say that this time of year is often called the season of miracles, which seems especially fitting for one local family, thanks to the quick actions of a Howard County police officer.

Earlier this week, police received a call to 911 that a man had collapsed in a classroom at Reservoir High School. Cpl. Terrence Benn was at a traffic stop nearby and was the first officer to respond to the scene, as the school resource officer was out sick. As school officials ushered students from the classroom, Cpl. Benn ran in and immediately began using the school’s automated external defibrillator (AED) to revive the man several times until paramedics arrived. The man, a substitute teacher, was taken to a local hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

Paramedics and school officials credited Cpl. Benn with saving the man’s life.

“I was not surprised at all to learn of Cpl. Benn’s decisive actions and could not be more proud of him,” said Chief Gary L. Gardner, noting Cpl. Benn earlier this year earned the department’s Outstanding Community Service Award for 2014. “He is a true example of our outstanding members, who are trained to act quickly in any situation.”

When successful thieves keep shopping at the same stores

NORTHEAST, MD. – The Maryland State Police Northeast Barrack reports that the public assisted in finding members of Maryland’s criminal class.

“Once again, thanks to tips received through Facebook, we were able to positively identify 4 suspects involved in two prior thefts at Walmart. In fact, the suspects returned for a 3rd attempt on Friday but this time were caught by police,” reported the State Police in a statement.

North East Troopers, with the assistance of members from the MSP Gang Enforcement Unit, JFK Highway Barrack and Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, arrested two suspects at the store and another suspect a short time later after a brief vehicle pursuit.

According to police the suspects arrested are identified as James Junior Dickens, 31; Bobby Lee Franze, 26; and Patricia Ann Aswinkle, 21; all three reside in Baltimore County. Charges are pending against the 4th suspect. Charges include felony theft, theft scheme and possession of a controlled dangerous substance and various traffic charges related to the vehicle pursuit.
