I am pleased to share with you that Andrew Kugler was sentenced to life plus 10 years after being found guilty of first degree murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend, Amber Schinault.</p>
<p>Ms. Schinault was found dead in the basement of her Berwyn Heights home on July 22, 2012 and her throat had been slashed. Mr. Kugler was arrested and charged with murder less than 24 hours after her body was found. Evidence at trial showed that Mr. Kugler, emotionally distraught from their breakup, crawled through a basement window and killed Ms. Schinault.</p>
<p>While the breakup of a relationship can be a difficult thing, he had no right to take the life of an innocent woman. We take domestic violence very seriously in Prince George&#8217;s County and we are pleased that Mr. Kugler will not be able to walk our streets for a very long time.</p>
<p>Arturo Harris was also sentenced, Friday, to six months suspend all but 30 days of home detention and one year of supervised probation, after pleading guilty to one count of leaving an unattended child, three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of failing to curb the wheels of an unattended vehicle.</p>
<p>Mr. Harris plead guilty as a result of an April 2014 incident in which he left four children on a school bus to use the restroom at High Point High School. The bus subsequently rolled down a hill towards children waiting at an elementary school bus stop and struck a six-year-old child.</p>
<p>This was an unfortunate incident that could have had a tragic ending, but fortunately there were no serious injuries to the children as a result of Mr. Harris&#8217; negligence. Had he taken the proper precautions, this incident would not have happened and it is important that we send the message that our children must be protected.</p>
<p>I would also like to inform you of the sentencing hearing for D&#8217;Juan Hunter, taking place this Wednesday November, 12 at 9:30 am in courtroom D2026. Mr. Hunter was found guilty, in August, of second degree murder for the death of his mother&#8217;s boyfriend, Raymond Quattlebaum.</p>
<p>In January, 2014, Mr. Hunter went to his mother&#8217;s home in Clinton to collect his belongings after being told to leave the house because he was not respectful towards Mr. Quattlebaum. Upon his arrival, Mr. Hunter went to his upstairs room, retrieved a handgun, then went to the bedroom where the victim was sleeping and shot him multiple times.</p>
<p>Mr. Hunter&#8217;s mother called 911, but he fled before police arrived. He was later arrested and positively identified by his mother, brother, son and nephew as the shooter.</p>
<p>There is no place in our society for people who resort to violence to solve their differences. Mr. Hunter faces a maximum of 50 years in prison and I encourage you to join us in supporting the victim&#8217;s family this Wednesday morning.</p>

<p>I also want to acknowledge and thank my family for the love and support I enjoy every day. No matter what challenges we confront together as a community, I am confident in our ability to move forward. I love you Prince George&#8217;s and thank you for believing in me once again.</p>
