Dover-The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash in which a pedestrian was struck and killed on South DuPont Highway US13 last evening.
Preliminary investigation has determined that the crash occurred on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at approximately 7:49 p.m. as Richard L. Daniels Jr.-40 of Dover, Delaware attempted to cross northbound travel lanes from the center median of South DuPont Highway (US13) south of Webbs Lane, Dover.
He crossed directly into the path of a 2008 Cadillac DTS operated by John A. Cranston-62 of Seaford, Delaware. The left side of the Cadillac struck Daniels and he was thrown onto the roadway where he was struck by a northbound 1997 BMW 740 operated by Trevor M. Grimes-23 of Dover, Delaware.
Richard L. Daniels Jr. suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation has indicated that Daniels was not in the area of a designated or marked crosswalk when struck.
Both vehicle operators were properly restrained and were not injured.
US 13 northbound was closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. US 13 southbound was initially closed for approximately 2 hours and then reopened for traffic.
Troopers continue to investigate this crash and no charges have been filed.
