The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision in Oxon Hill which left five people dead.
On October 10, 2014, at about 9:40 pm, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Livingston Road and Livingston Terrace for the report of a crash involving two cars. The preliminary investigation suggests the driver of a Mercedes was traveling westbound on Livingston Road approaching Livingston Terrace, where an Acura was stopped at the light. For reasons which remain unclear, the Mercedes failed to stop and struck the rear of the Acura.
There were five occupants in the Acura. The driver is the sole survivor. She was taken to a hospital where she remains in guarded condition. A female passenger in the Acura was pronounced dead on the scene. A second woman and two children were rushed to a hospital where they died from their injuries. There were three occupants in the Mercedes. A female passenger was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver is in critical condition. A second male passenger is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The names of the victims will be released once all family notifications have been made.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of this crash. Preliminarily, both speed and the weather may have been factors.
