Police say stroll from store didn’t include stopping to pay cashier

PRINCE FREDERICK, MD. — Calvert Sheriff Mike Evans reports that Dep. S. Moran responded to the Prince Frederick Walmart on September 16 shortly after noon for the report of a shoplifter in custody.  Moran made contact with a store theft-prevention employee and the suspect, identified as Frances Elaine Butler, 67, of Aquasco.  Butler was observed by the employee placing store merchandise into a bag and exiting the store without stopping to pay for the items.  Butler was placed under arrest for theft less than $1,000.

DUNKIRK, MD. — A victim on Ashwood Drive in Dunkirk advised DFC Y. Bortchevsky that she put an addressed greeting card in her mailbox and propped up the red flag for it to be picked up by a postal employee.  Shortly afterward, she observed a passenger vehicle pull up to her mailbox then drive away.  The victim walked to her mailbox and opened it and discovered an opened envelope addressed to someone she did not know and her own envelope was gone.  DFC Bortchevsky is continuing the investigation.

OWINGS, MD. — Calvert Sheriff Mike Evans reports that DFC J. Lord is investigating a case of apparent mail tampering at a residence on Fawn Lane in Owings that occurred during daytime hours on September 18.  The victim reports that there was a prescription bag in her mailbox addressed to her that was open, however, the prescription drugs inside the bag were not taken.  The investigation continues.

OWINGS, MD. — When families have tried everything they can think of to get a family member off of drugs then they sometimes turn to sending that person off to jail.

On September 20 at 1:03 p.m. Dep. A. Curtin arrested Christina Elizabeth Pratt, 52, of Owings, after he responded to her home address for a call for a person using drugs in the home.  Another resident had called police to report Pratt was using drugs.  After a consent to search, Pratt was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and a smoking device and was charged accordingly.

Breaking Bad in Calvert County

PRINCE FREDERICK, MD. — Dep. N. Gilmore conducted a traffic stop on September 20 at 11:20 p.m. at the Shell gas station in Prince Frederick.  The passenger, Ami Blair Zimmerman, 29 of Galesville, was arrested and charged with possession of Alprazolam, possession of Clonazepam, and two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia.

HUNTINGTOWN, MD. What scares off burglars?  Lights, guns and dogs. Are you stocked up on all three?

On September 21 at 1:30 a.m. a homeowner on Dixies Land Circle in Huntingtown advised Dep. W. Rector that someone tried to kick his front door open.  The culprit(s) was scared off before the homeowner could identify them.  No entrance was made into the residence.

Having a purse full of drugs while driving

SUNDERLAND, MD. — Calvert Sheriff Mike Evans reports that on September 21 at 12:41 p.m. Dep. S. Moran conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at Dalrymple Road and Sunderleigh Drive in Sunderland.  He found the driver, Rita Marie Wood, 22 of Chesapeake Beach, to be in possession of suspected drugs.  Wood was arrested and charged with possession of Oxycodone and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; dollar bills.
