SPRINGFIELD, VA. — Fairfax County Police report that they were dispatched to the 7000 block of Old Keene Mill Road for a report of an armed suicidal man in his 60’s. Upon arrival on the scene, officers contained the area and coordinated a lock down of Garfield Elementary School, in addition to evacuating the location, which was the Springfield United Methodist Church.
After officers contained the scene and while awaiting the arrival of SWAT officers and trained negotiators, they encountered the man which resulted in an officer involved shooting. The man is in serious but stable condition at a local hospital.
