<p>(ARBUTUS, MD) 05/05/2014– Maryland State police report that they are investigating a crash which claimed the life of a male driver late this morning, after the vehicle he was driving went over the bridge embankment and landed in the park below.<br />
The deceased is not being identified at this time pending positive identification from the medical examiner’s office and notification of next of kin. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The remains have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.<br />
A preliminary investigation has been conducted by troopers from the <strong>Maryland State Police CRASH Team</strong> with the assistance of personnel from<strong> Golden Ring and Waterloo Barracks</strong>. The investigation indicates that around 11:30 a.m. today, a 2005 Ford truck towing a trailer was traveling southbound on I-95 in the area of the Patapsco River Bridge. For reasons unknown at this time, the Ford truck and the trailer separated. The truck struck the bridge embankment on the right side before going over the embankment. The Ford truck fell, landing in the park below. The vehicle became engulfed in flames. The trailer came to rest on I-95 blocking the right two lanes.<br />
The driver of the Ford was the sole occupant of the vehicle. There has been no determination of vehicle speed at this time.<br />
Due to the severity of the crash, troopers closed southbound I-95 in the area of the Baltimore/Howard County line. The road was closed for several hours. State Highway Administration personnel assisted with lane closures. State Highway engineers inspected the bridge and made necessary repairs.<br />

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. The investigation is continuing.<br />

The deceased is not being identified at this time pending positive identification from the medical examiner’s office and notification of next of kin. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. </div></div></li>
