<div><em><strong>Frederick County Heroin-Related Death Leads to Arrests</strong></em><br />
WINCHESTER, VA. 2014-04-08 &#8212; Frederick County Sheriff&#8217;s officers report that two Frederick County residents have been charged in connection with last week&#8217;s death of a 31-year-old heroin overdose victim.<br />
In the early morning hours of April 1, 2014, the <strong>Frederick County Sheriff’s Office</strong> responded to a residence on <strong>Apple Pie Ridge Road</strong> and found <strong>Andrew B. Lowder</strong>, 31, deceased from an apparent heroin overdose. His remains have been transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas for examination and autopsy.<br />
Further investigation into the death by the <strong>Northwest Virginia Regional Drug Task Force</strong> resulted in two arrests later Monday afternoon. <strong>Brandi Marple</strong>, 28, of Frederick County, Va., and <strong>Dennis K. Getz</strong>, 37, of Frederick County, Va., were taken into custody without incident and each charged with<strong> one felony count of distribution of heroin</strong>. They were transported to the Northwest Regional Adult Detention Center.<br />
Lowder’s death brings the region’s heroin-related death toll to 11 since Jan. 1, 2014.<br />
“Area law enforcement is committed to pursuing these deaths in order to arrest those responsible for bringing heroin into the region,” said <strong>Virginia State Police Supervisory Special Agent Jay Perry</strong>, NVRDG Task Force coordinator. “Several of these deaths have resulted in an arrest being made within 24 hours of initiating an investigation. But, we cannot arrest our way out of this epidemic.”<br />
“It’s going to take community action in order to stop the demand for the drug. We encourage parents, community leaders, and educators to talk with their children, students and neighbors about heroin’s highly-addictive, deadly risks. If you suspect someone you know is using heroin, then please seek out treatment for that individual. If you see drug activity taking place, then please notify your local police or sheriff’s office. Together we can help save lives and our communities,” continued Perry.<br />
The NVRDG Task Force includes the following law enforcement agencies: Clarke County, Frederick County, Page County, Shenandoah County and Warren County sheriffs’ offices; Town of Front Royal and Strasburg police departments; City of Winchester Police Department; and Virginia State Police.</div>
