<p><figure id="attachment_2524" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2524" style="width: 300px" class="wp-caption alignleft"><a href="https://www.the-chesapeake.com//wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Bridge-over-Choptank-River.jpg"><img src="https://www.the-chesapeake.com//wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Bridge-over-Choptank-River.jpg" alt="" title="Bridge over Choptank River" width="300" height="200" class="size-full wp-image-2524" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2524" class="wp-caption-text">The old bridge over the Choptank was put into service as a fishing pier.</figcaption></figure>CAMBRIDGE (Sept. 12, 2013) — An 18-year-old male was rescued and another 18-year-old was recovered deceased Wednesday after the two jumped off the Senator Malkus Jr. Bridge into the Choptank River near Cambridge.</p>
<p>A passerby contacted Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders at approximately 5 p.m., reporting the two jumped from the bridge wearing swim trunks. The reporting source said one did not resurface.</p>
<p>A boatcrew aboard a Cambridge fireboat was the first on scene and rescued one of two from the water.</p>
<p>Dive crews from Dorchester County recovered the second swimmer unresponsive.</p>
<p>A boatcrew aboard a 29-foot Response Boat from Coast Guard Station Oxford, and crews from Maryland Natural Resources Police, Maryland State Police and a dive crew from Preston County aided in the search.</p>
