The old bridge over the Choptank was put into service as a fishing pier.
CAMBRIDGE (Sept. 12, 2013) — An 18-year-old male was rescued and another 18-year-old was recovered deceased Wednesday after the two jumped off the Senator Malkus Jr. Bridge into the Choptank River near Cambridge.

A passerby contacted Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders at approximately 5 p.m., reporting the two jumped from the bridge wearing swim trunks. The reporting source said one did not resurface.

A boatcrew aboard a Cambridge fireboat was the first on scene and rescued one of two from the water.

Dive crews from Dorchester County recovered the second swimmer unresponsive.

A boatcrew aboard a 29-foot Response Boat from Coast Guard Station Oxford, and crews from Maryland Natural Resources Police, Maryland State Police and a dive crew from Preston County aided in the search.
