Jersey chopper pilot takes controlled dip into Chesapeake at Taylors Island; he and passenger walk to shore

(TAYLORS ISLAND, MD) – According to the Maryland State Police, Maryland state troopers on the scene of a crash of a chopper from New Jersey are reporting there were no injuries to the two people on board a private helicopter that landed in the water just off the Dorchester County shore late this afternoon.

Eastern Shore Police Beat: Three banks robbed in just over 24 hours have cops running out of crime scene tape

SALISBURY, MD. — Bank robbers have been having their own shopping spree in just over 24 hours, robbing three lower Eastern Shore banks. The three banks which were robbed are located in Sharptown, Princess Anne and Salisbury.

The first was the BB & T in Princess Anne, early in the morning, the second and third took place on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014.

On Friday, December 12, 2014 at approximately 10:11 a.m. the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Hebron Savings Bank, located in Sharptown, Wicomico County, MD for a reported bank robbery.

Eastern Shore Police Beat: Farmer scared off Smith Brothers Burglars stealing copper; deputies track them to scrap yard

The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) was involved in this case. Detectives learned the males drove to a scrap yard where they scrapped the stolen items. One of the main suspects was identified as Shaun David Smith through the investigation. Another male present with Shaun was his father, Dennis Andrew Smith. The third male was not able to be identified at that time. Arrest warrants were obtained for Shaun and Dennis Smith. On November 11, 2014, Shaun and Dennis Smith were taken into custody at Mid-Shore Scrap while trying to scrap more stolen items.

Maryland State Police homicide investigators are in the early stages of an investigation into the suspicious death of an unidentified person whose decomposed remains were found today in a rural area of Dorchester County.

The remains of the person have not been identified. Investigators will await forensic examination from experts at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner who will attempt to determine the sex, age, race, and identity of the remains, as well as a cause and manner of death. The preliminary investigation indicates the person may have been dead less than six months.
