More than 200 people were arrested on Friday after property was vandalized in the US capital in the hours around Trump’s swearing-in as president. Police said six officers received minor injuries.

FROM WTOP

Muhammad Ashraf, the president of the Virginia-based Nationwide Chauffeured Services, said Monday that replacing the car could cost tens of thousands of dollars. Insurance would cover vandalism but may not cover his situation because the car was damaged in a riot, he said.

More than 230 people were arrested after self-described anti-capitalists began breaking the windows of businesses, the limo and an emergency vehicle Friday, the day of President Donald Trump’s inauguration. Court paperwork says the group did more than $100,000 in damage.

Ashraf said his family-owned business, based in Alexandria, Virginia, has a fleet of approximately 30 limousines, party buses and other vehicles and has been in business for 25 years. He called the limousine’s destruction “a very sad situation.” He said the limousine was one of two vehicles of that kind owned by the company and was in heavy demand around the inauguration.

Not having the vehicle means he’s losing business, he said.

“I just can’t imagine why people had to do these things,” he said.

Luis Villarroel, the car’s driver, said he had dropped off clients and was parked when he saw the protesters. He said about six people smashed the car’s windows with bricks, a piece of wood and, he believes, one or more hammers. MORE

Project Veritas this week publicly released an undercover video taken Dec. 18 that shows three men associated with the D.C. Antifascist Coalition and DisruptJ20 group discussing plans to disrupt the DeploraBall.

After the release of the video, DisruptJ20 organizers said the activists in the undercover video figured out the Project Veritas investigator was a plant and “gave him false information about … what they felt was the most humorous red herring available: a false plot to use stink bombs at an event called the Deploraball with the so-called ‘Alt-Right.’”

Court documents state that police relied on the video turned over to investigators on Tuesday by the unidentified person.

D.C. MAYOR AND POLICE CHIEF CONDEMN OUT OF TOWN INSTIGATORS OF VIOLENCE

“We welcome visitors to our city. But we will not tolerate the destruction of our neighborhoods and we absolutely will not tolerate violence against our police officers,” Mayor Muriel Bowser said in an evening press briefing on Jan. 21st.

D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said the protesters threw rocks and bricks at police. Six D.C. police officers were injured during the altercations, including three who suffered minor head injuries from flying objects.

A group of about 400 to 500 people descended around Franklin Square about 10:30 a.m. Many of the protesters were armed with crowbars and hammers, which they used to break store windows and damaged vehicles. They set several small fires and scuffled with police as they were arrested, Newsham said.

He called it a coordinated attack by an organized group from outside D.C.

“We had thousands of people that came to Washington D.C. to peacefully demonstrate. Unfortunately, we had a small group that wanted to disrupt the inauguration,” Newsham said. “We have significant damage in a number of blocks in our city.”

SPECIAL FROM THE WHITE HOUSE:

Standing Up For Our Law Enforcement Community

One of the fundamental rights of every American is to live in a safe community. A Trump Administration will empower our law enforcement officers to do their jobs and keep our streets free of crime and violence. The Trump Administration will be a law and order administration. President Trump will honor our men and women in uniform and will support their mission of protecting the public. The dangerous anti-police atmosphere in America is wrong. The Trump Administration will end it.

The Trump Administration is committed to reducing violent crime. In 2015, homicides increased by 17% in America’s fifty largest cities. That’s the largest increase in 25 years. In our nation’s capital, killings have risen by 50 percent. There were thousands of shootings in Chicago last year alone.

Our country needs more law enforcement, more community engagement, and more effective policing.

Our job is not to make life more comfortable for the rioter, the looter, or the violent disrupter.

Our job is not to make life more comfortable for the rioter, the looter, or the violent disrupter. Our job is to make life more comfortable for parents who want their kids to be able to walk the streets safely. Or the senior citizen waiting for a bus. Or the young child walking home from school.

Supporting law enforcement means supporting our citizens’ ability to protect themselves. We will uphold Americans’ Second Amendment rights at every level of our judicial system.

President Trump is committed to building a border wall to stop illegal immigration, to stop the gangs and the violence, and to stop the drugs from pouring into our communities. He is dedicated to enforcing our border laws, ending sanctuary cities, and stemming the tide of lawlessness associated with illegal immigration.

Supporting law enforcement also means deporting illegal aliens with violent criminal records who have remained within our borders.

It is the first duty of government to keep the innocent safe, and President Donald Trump will fight for the safety of every American, and especially those Americans who have not known safe neighborhoods for a very long time.
