<h2>Pill Packing on a Booze Cruise Wins Woman a DUI and Drug Charge</h2>

According to the Talbot County Sheriff, on January 13, </span>2016<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> at approximately 9:19 pm, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle driving erratically on St Michaels Road near the Easton Bypass. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Police say the vehicle was found to be operated by Rachel Magdalene Treiber, 25, of 5585 </span>Marlan<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> Drive, Trappe, MD. Deputy Rush detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on Treiber, and after failing field sobriety testing, Treiber was placed under arrest. A search of the vehicle revealed illegal prescription medication and paraphernalia. Treiber was charged with possession of CDS, possession of paraphernalia and driving under the influence of alcohol. Treiber was seen and released by the District Court Commissioner on her own recognizance.</span></p>

<h2>Driver in crash on White Marsh Road charged with DUI</h2>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">TRAPPE, MD. – A driver who is on probation for DUI found his way clear to drink and drive again, according to police, and now may see </span>more<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> serious accounting for his actions than he did in 2014.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Talbot Sheriff Joseph Gamble reports that on January 15, 2016, at approximately </span>5:48pm<span style="font-size: 12pt;">, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a single vehicle motor vehicle accident in the area of White Marsh Road near Delahay Drive, Trappe, Maryland. Upon arrival, Deputies made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as John Alexander Morrison, 57, of 28539 Sanderstown Road, Trappe, Maryland. Talbot Sheriff’s Lt. John Bollinger reports that Deputy J. Rush reportedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Morrison’s breath and person. Morrison failed field sobriety testing and was placed under arrest, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. The District Court Commissioner ordered Morrison held on a $5,000 bond.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">When Morrison was arrested for DUI on Jan. 9, 2014, while driving on Dutchman’s / Elwood Road by Easton Police Officer J. Merrick, he got an easy deal from Talbot County States Attorney Scott Patterson. In a plea deal with Patterson, Morrison entered a guilty plea on April 30, 2014, and was fined $242.50 and sent to jail for 60 days. According to court records, the jail sentence was suspended as part of the deal and while he had a fine, he got no time. Other charges were dropped as part of the plea deal arranged by noted local defense attorney Stephanie Shipley, who is reputed to have prosecutors so overwhelmed by her valiant demeanor and skills in the courtroom that they turn tail and run.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Charged with six counts of assault and resisting arrest on June 3, </span>2005,<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> by Talbot Sheriff’s Deputy McDonough, Morrison was represented by Raymond H. Simmons Jr., of Cambridge, Md. In District Court in Talbot County on Nov. 21, 2005, all charges were dropped in a plea deal except for second-degree assault. On that charge, Morrison entered a guilty plea and was fined $942.50 with $500 of the fine immediately suspended. A jail term of two years was part of the deal, as was the immediate one year and eleven months which was suspended.</span></p>

<h1><span style="font-size: 12pt;">BLUNTLY – was she too stoned to park her car?</span></h1>
<h1><span style="font-size: 12pt;">ST. MICHAEL’S MD. &#8212; The trouble with letting alleged potheads smoke dope legally is that most of them are too dopey to do it at home and they hit the road just like the boozers.</span></h1>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Talbot County’s Sheriff reports that on January 13, </span>2016<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> at 1:59 am, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling in the Chester Park area near St Michaels, MD. A vehicle was observed parked in the roadway on Chester Park Lane. When deputies made contact with the occupants, an odor of burning marijuana was detected in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Renee Michelle Thomas, 32, of St Michaels, MD was found to be in possession of a partial blunt marijuana cigarette. Thomas was charged on a criminal citation with possession of paraphernalia and released at the scene.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Burglar back in the slammer</span></h2>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">TILGHMAN ISLAND, MD. &#8212; After allegedly violating the terms of his release from prison a Tilghman Island convicted burglar is back in the slammer, according to Talbot County Sheriff Joe Gamble.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The Sheriff reports that on January 16, 2016, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office served two warrants on Benjamin Sherwood Byers Sr., 56 of Tilghman, MD. On January 14, 2016, Byers failed to appear in Talbot County Circuit Court on original charges of burglary and negligent driving. Byers was transported to The Talbot County Detention Center, where he will be held without bond pending further court action.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">On Sept. 18, 2015, Byers entered into a plea deal with Talbot County States Attorney Scott Patterson in which in exchange for pleading guilty to fourth-degree burglary, Byers was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 152 days suspended leaving him with but 28 days in jail and 18 months of probation. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Byers was originally charged with burglary in a statement of charges filed by the Talbot States Attorney on March 4, </span>2015,<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> with Deputy Ryan Andrew as the arresting officer.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-size: 12pt;">DWI arrest follows lane </span>hopping<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> for Robert Mark Taylor</span></h2>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">EASTON, MD. &#8212; According to Talbot Sheriff Joe Gamble, on January 16, 2016, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office observed a white in color Ford truck swerving within its travel lane on Ocean Gateway near </span>Manadier<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> Road. The deputies stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Robert Mark Taylor, 59, of Cambridge, Md. Taylor was found to be under the influence of alcohol, and after failing field sobriety testing, was placed under arrest. Taylor was charged with driving while impaired by alcohol, negligent </span>driving<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> and unsafe lane change. Taylor was released at the scene to a sober driver.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Deadhead Express leaves pothead with citation</span></h2>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">EASTON, MD. &#8212; Dopey driver revealed by the stale pot air of the interior of his deadhead mobile.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Police say that on January 16, 2016, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office stopped a black in color Kia sedan traveling above the posted speed limit on St Michaels Road near Solitude Road. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Ian James Sawatsky, 21, of Bozman, Md. The deputy detected the odor of burnt marijuana in the vehicle. Sawatsky admitted to possessing marijuana, which he handed to the Deputy. Sawatsky also handed over paraphernalia to the Deputy. Sawatsky </span>was issued<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> a civil citation for possession of marijuana; less than 10 grams, a criminal citation for possession of paraphernalia and a traffic citation for speeding. Sawatsky was released upon his signature on the citations.</span></p>
