PITTSVILLE, MD. (March 9, 2015)— A Sunday evening drive on Rt. 50 ended in the death of a Rehobeth, Del., woman after the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee in which she was a passenger and operated by her husband, Mark Douglas Joiner, 71, also of Rehobeth, collided with a 2007Mazda CX-7.

The initial police report stated that the Jeep was traveling eastbound on Rt. 50 and turned north/bound onto Sixty Foot Road and was in the process of crossing Rt. 50 at about 7:40 pm. The police reported that the Mazda was traveling westbound on Rt. 50 when it t-boned the Jeep in the passenger side of the vehicle in the intersection. Police said that alcohol was not a factor but in the case of fatal wrecks, a blood sample taken from both drivers is required and that test would determine whether any drugs or alcohol were in the systems of either operator, even though the initial observations of the troopers on the scene reveal no obvious signs of substances.

The Mazda was operated by Patricia Ford Milutin, 70, of Princess Anne, Md., with her husband, Rudy Lucian Milutin, 78, also of Princess Anne, as her passenger. Patricia Milutin was treated and released from a hospital while Rudy Milutin was first taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center and then flown to the Baltimore Shock Trauma Center where his condition was reported by Maryland State Police as being serious.

Police say that Mark Joiner was released from the hospital after being treated for his injuries.

Fire and rescue personnel from the Pittsville Fire Department and State Highway workers responded to assist the injured and re-route traffic as Rt. 50 was shut down for three hours. The Maryland State Police Crash Team responded and the investigation is being handled by Tfc. K. Moore, a Reconstructionist assigned to the Salisbury Barrack of the Maryland State Police. The State Police have assigned a case number of 15-MSP-008419 to this deadly crash.

At uncontrolled intersections, vehicles making turns across travelled lanes of a divided highway must yield the right-of-way. A failure to abide by these rules can and did, in this case, have a deadly consequence. Charges may be placed against the driver of the vehicle found at fault.
