Michael Shane charged with skimming copper wire from Dover power plant and selling it to scrap yard

DOVER, DEL. (Sept. 21, 2014) — Dover Police Lt. David E. Spicer reports that between November 2012 and July 2014 a significant amount of heavy duty high voltage cooper wire, approximately 1000′ was stolen from a warehouse on the property of McKee Run Generating Station (Dover Power Plant) which belongs to the City of Dover Electric Department.

The Police say that their Investigation revealed that a current employee of North American Energy Services (NAES), who is contracted by the City of Dover for plant operations was a suspect. Michael W. Shane Sr., 46, of Clayton, Del., had allegedly scrapped nearly 11,000 pounds of copper wiring and enriching himself with the proceeds of $30,000.00 at the Dover Scrap Yard for the sale of the of the copper.

Police say that Shane failed to clean up evidence which was located at the defendant’s previous residence also linking him to the crime. Defendant Shane was processed and then arraigned at and released on $5,000.00 unsecured bond so he can hit the bricks.
