GREAT MILLS, MD. 07/16/2014 — The mayhem allegedly caused by three bozos who made a holiday pit stop at a Great Mills towing company, who may be in the business of repossessing vehicles, finally was described by the St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Department in a press release issued on July 15, 2014.
The eleven day delay indicates that either the sole practitioner of writing press releases was on vacation or perhaps the internet was down for the Sheriff’s Office.
St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that on July 4, 2014, Deputy Schultz responded to the Precision Towing located in the 20000 block of Point Lookout Road in Great Mills, for a disturbance.
An employee reported he was placing two vehicles inside the tow lot when a black male suspect, later identified as Sean Waddell Smith, 30, of Temple Hills, got into one of the vehicles (2008 Nissan Altima), started it, and drove toward the exit. The employee closed the gate to prevent the vehicle from leaving. Smith then exited the vehicle, pulled the gate open, and drove off the lot. Smith stopped and turned the vehicle over to who was later identified as Tyechia Juwan Shorter, 30, of Mechanicsville – the registered owner of the vehicle. The vehicle had not been towed as a result of police action.
Corporal Cathcart observed the vehicle on Pegg Road being operated by a female matching the description provided by the tow employee. Corporal Cathcart stopped the vehicle and after confirming the vehicle was one in the same placed Shorter under arrest. Suspect Smith walked up to deputies on the scene of the traffic stop and was subsequently placed under arrest as well.
While deputies were conducting the investigation on the scene of the traffic stop, suspect Delante Anthony Moore, 32, of Lexington Park, attempted to repeatedly approach passengers inside Shorter’s vehicle. Moore was interfering with the investigation and was ordered to leave the area. Moore refused to leave and continued to approach Shorter’s vehicle and deputies on the scene. Several times, deputies had to divert their attention toward Moore. He was again told to leave and he refused. Moore was placed under arrest.
Smith was charged with Theft Under $1,000, Unauthorized Removal of Property, and Property Destruction (damage to the gate).
Shorter was charged with Theft Under $1,000 as a result of a theft of service for not paying the tow bill.
Moore was charged with Failure to Obey a Lawful Order and Obstructing/Hindering.
All 3 suspects were transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.
