ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WJLA) – Fire crews battled a massive six-alarm fire in the 800 block of south Pickett Street in Alexandria, Va. It was visible from miles away, and firefighters from Prince George’s County helped Northern Virginia firefighters put it out.
The blaze quickly filled a warehouse on South Pickett Street used by construction and recycling companies. Within minutes, plumes of smoke could be seen from Maryland, D.C., and throughout northern Virginia.
The warehouse fire was reported at about noon on Monday and firefighters contained it by about 4 p.m.
Residents couldn’t believe their eyes. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the fire did cause a host of other issues. For example, there was no access to Eisenhower from Van Dorn Street.
Stephen Bota and his family had a difficult time trying to get where they wanted to go, as traffic issues lingered into the evening rush hour.
“For them to shut down a major highway, it must be so bad,” he said…
