PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard is searching the Atlantic Ocean 1,582 miles east of San Juan, Puerto Rico for four people aboard the French flagged sailing vessel Recidive. Coast Guard watchstanders received notification of a broadcast from a personal locator beacon assigned to the vessel at 1:45 p.m. Saturday.
Using Amver, the automated mutual assistance vessel rescue system, the Coast Guard has directed the Greek flagged merchant vessel Delta Kanaris to the location of the broadcast.
The Coast Guard has also launched a C-130 rescue crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., to assist in the search. The French nationals were sailing from the Canary Islands to Martinique on a trans-Atlantic voyage.
