<p>PORTSMOUTH, Va. (Dec. 11, 2010) &#8211; A Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew medevaced a 13-year-old boy off a cruise ship approximately 40 miles northeast of Cape Hatteras Saturday.</p>
<p>Coast Guard watchstanders received a call at 8 a.m. from crew aboard the cruise ship Norwegian Jewel reporting they had a teenage boy showing symptoms of acute appendicitis and needing medical attention.</p>
<p>The helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. was dispatched to the scene and hoisted the boy and his mother off the cruise ship at 11:02 a.m.</p>
<p>They were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.</p>
