<p><strong>GREAT MILLS, MD. (Sept. 18, 2014)</strong> – Outsmarted again. That’s the story as a local bozo kid who likely should already have been expelled from school made monkeys out of school officials and police with a prank call. According to one official, the call that came to the 911 center said that the student didn’t want to see his friends die as he knew of various local wanna-be-famous-twits were bringing guns to school to kill as many as possible.</p>
<p>On Thursday, September 18, 2014, the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a single phone call reporting an unsubstantiated verbal threat at Great Mills High School.</p>
<p>As a result, the school was immediately placed on lockdown. A coordinated response was initiated immediately with school and law enforcement officials. The school’s administration followed the emergency response protocols outlined in the St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) School Crisis and Emergency Response Plan and continually worked with law enforcement authorizes to complete the investigation.</p>
<p>The school building was placed in a lockdown status while law enforcement units searched the building. The building was cleared for use at approximately 12:25 p.m. The school continued with the normal schedule for the day at that time.</p>
<p>Mr. J. Scott Smith, Administrator in Charge for SMCPS (which apparently is the new double-talk to describe the interim Superintendent of Schools for St. Mary’s County), stated “The safety of our students and staff always comes first, so we must take all threats seriously. With that said, we will continue to work with law enforcement to identify the caller and pursue appropriate charges to the fullest extent of the law.”</p>
<p>The school system should simply install a metal detector at the doorway and screen all who go to the high schools and remove all the guns, knives, drugs and other contraband from the students and faculty as they enter the building.</p>
<p>Then when a prank caller places a threat, the officials could simply tell him to go fly a kite and hang up. Not that this approach will ever happen. They are all having too much fun handling these crisis’s just like they have always done.</p>
