</div>The Maryland Natural Resources Police charged 10 people during the past week with offenses ranging from assault to drug possession on State lands.<span id="more-6936"></span></p>
<p><b>Allegany County</b> ─ A Flintstone man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on May 31 in Green Ridge State Forest.</p>
<p><strong>Joel Eric Larue</strong>, 56, was parked in a lot used by anglers near 15 Mile Creek with his truck’s engine running when officers approached and smelled alcohol. Larue failed a field sobriety test and officers found an open beer in the truck’s center console.</p>
<p>At the local Maryland State Police barracks, Larue refused to take a breathalyzer test.</p>
<p>He is scheduled to appear in Allegany County District Court at a later date. The maximum penalties for a first offense DUI include a one-year jail sentence, as well as a six-month license suspension and $1,000 fine.</p>

<p><b>Garrett County</b> ─ Officers charged a Baltimore man with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on May 24 in Potomac Garrett State Forest.</p>
<p><strong>Brent Pearson Highkin</strong>, 30, received two criminal citations after officers recovered the items from a campsite and a vehicle.</p>
<p>The maximum penalty is $500 on each count and up to 90 days in jail.</p>
<p><b>Washington County</b> ─ A Clear Spring man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on May 24 after an officer saw a vehicle stop in the middle of the road and then drive into a farm field.</p>
<p><strong>Bradley Jay Leggett</strong>, 33, had two open bottles of beer in his vehicle and a lime with a slice taken out of it in his hand. Leggett was taken to the local <strong>Maryland State Police barracks</strong> and administered a breathalyzer test. He registered a .08.</p>
<p>The maximum penalties for a first offense DUI include a one-year jail sentence, as well as a six-month license suspension and $1,000 fine.</p>
<p><b>Washington County</b> ─ Officers arrested a Prince George’s County man on second-degree assault charges on Sunday after he struck a woman at Greenbrier State Park.</p>
<p>Witnesses said <strong>Kevn Alexander Balbuena</strong>, 21, of Mount Rainier, grabbed and struck a woman several times while the two walked in the park’s day use area.</p>
<p>Balbuena will be tried in Washington County District County at a date to be determined. The maximum penalty is a $2,500 fine and up to 10 years in prison.</p>
<p><b>Washington County </b>─ Two Hagerstown men were arrested on May 28 along the banks of the Potomac River and charged with <strong>possession of heroin.</strong></p>
<p>Acting on tips from anglers who said they saw men injecting themselves, officers stopped <strong>Justin Lynn Wood</strong>, 26, and <strong>Joseph Dennis Marshall</strong>, 31, as they climbed the riverbank near the C&;O Canal towpath. A search of the area turned up a plastic-wrapped substance that the men acknowledged was heroin.</p>
<p>Both men are scheduled to appear July 29 in Washington County District Court. The maximum penalty is a $25,000 fine and up to four years in prison.</p>
