<p><strong>FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATED IN WASHINGTON CO.<br />
</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: left;">(HAGERSTOWN, MD) – A motorcyclist was fatally injured in Washington County this afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed, not long after refusing to stop for a state trooper and accelerating away.</p>
<p>The deceased is identified as<strong> Zachary A. Macintosh</strong>, 29, of the 1600-block of Gibbons Road, Point of Rocks, Md. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.</p>
<p>Just before 1:00 p.m. today, <strong>Lt. Michael Fluharty</strong>, commander of the <strong>Hagerstown Barrack</strong>, was working speed enforcement on eastbound Rt. 40 at Beverly Road near Hagerstown, when he observed a 1999 Suzuki GSXR-750 motorcycle pass his location traveling between an estimated 75-80 mph in a 45 mph zone. Lt. Fluharty activated the emergency lights and siren on his unmarked State Police car and attempted to stop the motorcyclist, later identified as Macintosh.</p>
<p><strong>HIGH-SPEED EXIT FROM LIFE &#8212;</strong>&#8211; Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated away at a high rate of speed eastbound on Rt. 40. For less than one minute, Lt. Fluharty attempted to follow until he saw the driver run a red light, at which time he turned off his emergency equipment, ended his pursuit, and lost sight of the motorcyclist.</p>
<p>About one mile further on Rt. 40, the preliminary investigation indicates Macintosh lost control of the motorcycle when he entered a curve. The motorcycle left the roadway and Macintosh was ejected.</p>
