<p><a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;the-chesapeake&period;com&sol;&sol;wp-content&sol;uploads&sol;2013&sol;09&sol;Bill-McCaffrey&period;jpg"><img src&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;the-chesapeake&period;com&sol;&sol;wp-content&sol;uploads&sol;2013&sol;09&sol;Bill-McCaffrey&period;jpg" alt&equals;"" title&equals;"Bill McCaffrey" width&equals;"207" height&equals;"207" class&equals;"alignleft size-full wp-image-2501" &sol;><&sol;a><br &sol;>&NewLine;William Roessing McCaffrey&comma; 79 of Glen Burnie&comma; Maryland passed away on September 6&comma; 2013&period; He was born in Washington&comma; DC to Henry and Mabel McCaffrey on July 28&comma; 1934&period; He graduated in 1954 from Annacostia High School&period; <&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>He is survived by his loving wife&comma; Betty McCaffrey&period; He was the beloved father of Michael McCaffrey&semi; Philip McCaffrey&semi; Michael Stallings&comma; Sharon Biggam and Charles McCaffrey&period; He was the beloved grandfather to 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and is survived by his sister&comma; Mary Peach&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Bill was well-known throughout Maryland&comma; but especially in Southern Maryland where he was the prolific sports writer for St&period; Mary&&num;8217&semi;s Today from 1995 until the paper was sold in 2010&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Bill was a member of the House of Delegates for PG Co&period; from 1974-1990&comma; where he Vice Chaired the Environmental Matters Committee&comma; Member of the Special Advisory Commission on Professional Sports and the Economy&comma; member of the Energy Committee for the Southern Legislative Conference and Chair for Human Resources and Urban Affairs Committee for the Southern Legislative Committee&period; He had retired from C&&num;038&semi;P Telephone Company after 30 years of service as a supervisor&comma; wrote a sports column for papers such as Bowie Blade&comma; St&period; Mary’s Today&comma; the Enquirer Gazette and Charles County Gazette&comma; he hosted a talk radio sports show for WSMD&comma; he had served in the US Navy Reserves from 1956-1958&comma; he retired from MARC Railroad where he served as the Executive Assistant Administrator&comma; served as a Liquor Inspector PG Co&period; Bill also was a member of the Brandywine&comma; Ft&period; Washington&comma; Surratts&comma; Nottingham and Marlboro Democratic Clubs&comma; VFW Voice of the Democracy Citation&semi; was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America&comma; a member of the PG Co&period; United Way Executive Board&semi; a member of the Easton Elks&comma; Clinton American Legion&comma; Camp Springs Elks&semi; was the Master of Ceremonies &&num;038&semi; supporter of the PG Co&period; Special Olympics&semi; was a member of the Professional Basketball Writers Association of America&semi; Home Plate Club&semi; Society of American Baseball Research&period; He was inducted into Washington Metro USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1983&semi; won the Twentieth Coach Award in 1978&semi; managed 1980 Women’s ASA National Slow Pitch Softball Champions &lpar;the Encore&rpar;&semi; was a member and Commissioner for the Maryland State Athletic Commission from 1998 to current&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Special Olympics of Maryland&comma; 3701 Commerce Drive&comma; Suite 103&comma; Baltimore&comma; MD 21127&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Funeral&colon; 10 am Sept&period; 12&comma; 2013<br &sol;>&NewLine;Harundale Presbyterian Church<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>1020 Eastway<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Glen Burnie&comma; MD&comma; US<&sol;p>&NewLine;
