<p><figure id&equals;"attachment&lowbar;1941" aria-describedby&equals;"caption-attachment-1941" style&equals;"width&colon; 220px" class&equals;"wp-caption alignleft"><a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;the-chesapeake&period;com&sol;&sol;wp-content&sol;uploads&sol;2013&sol;08&sol;Chesapeake-Today-front-page-Aug-20131&period;jpg"><img src&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;the-chesapeake&period;com&sol;&sol;wp-content&sol;uploads&sol;2013&sol;08&sol;Chesapeake-Today-front-page-Aug-20131-220x300&period;jpg" alt&equals;"" title&equals;"Chesapeake Today front page Aug 2013" width&equals;"220" height&equals;"300" class&equals;"size-medium wp-image-1941" &sol;><&sol;a><figcaption id&equals;"caption-attachment-1941" class&equals;"wp-caption-text">On newsstands everywhere in Southern Maryland<&sol;figcaption><&sol;figure>ST&period; JAMES &&num;8212&semi; According to a news release of the St&period; Mary’s Sheriff’s Department&comma; on 9&sol;1&sol;13 at approximately 9&colon;00 pm&comma; Shirley Jordan&comma; 63&comma; of Great Mills was walking across Route 235 in the area of Mattapany Rd&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;While crossing the two-lane highway&comma; which is in a 50 M&period;P&period;H&period; speed zone police say she was struck by a 1994 Chevrolet Sport Van operated by Cong Nguyen&comma; 43&comma; of Virginia&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Police report that Jordan was transported to St&period; Mary’s Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;The fact that there was no fly-out to a trauma unit&comma; indicates there may have been no chance for Jordan to survive&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;The St&period; Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction team assumed the investigation&period; Police say that alcohol and speed do not appear to be contributing factors in the incident&comma; however alcohol often is a factor on the part of pedestrians who are found later from autopsies to be under the influence of alcohol and or drugs&period; Blood tests will take at least a few weeks to determine BAC levels in both the driver and the deceased&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;The police are required to obtain a blood draw in the case of a highway fatality but police did not indicate if this was done in this incident&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Anyone with any information in regards to the incident is requested to call Deputy Beyer at 301-475-4040&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Those walking along highways or crossing need to be aware of the speed of traffic and wear reflective clothing&comma; and wait until the traffic has passed before beginning to cross&period; <&sol;p>&NewLine;
