THE CHESAPEAKE TODAY

CAMBRIDGE, MD. — In spite of all the great destinations along the Delmarva shore, some folks decide that poking around Pocomoke City, taking an island cruise from either Point Lookout or Crisfield to Tangier and Smith Islands or fishing from a pier jutting out over the Choptank is for them.

One such fellow is Tony Averella, of Baltimore. Tony had been working his assortment of crab traps from his post along the two-mile long fishing pier at the Choptank River on July 21st until deciding to pack up about noon following a close encounter with a turtle.

Blue crab blues – when crabs fight, might makes right

Crustaceans are invertebrates and have skeletons that are on the outside. In order to gr…ow they have to molt or shed their exoskeleton. Before it can molt, the crab must create a new, soft, paper thin shell beneath the existing hard one. When the new shell is fully formed under the old shell, the crab stops eating and finds a safe place to begin molting.

Gunmen cleaned out cell phone store; hot phones might be dicey to connect to service

Some dangerous criminals are dangerously stupid on top of being crooked. The Salisbury Police are now on the lookout for two men who robbed an AT&T store at gunpoint and cleaned out a large supply of expensive cell phones. Those who buy these hot phones will run into real problems when they try to connect them to service. At that point, it is likely that those who have been ripped off by the criminals will then in turn, turn them into police.

On July 15, 2014 at approximately 6:08 P.M. officers of the Salisbury Police Department responded to AT&T Wireless, located at 105 W. Ruark Dr., for a report of an armed robbery. The investigation revealed that two suspects entered the store and displayed a handgun before ordering employees and customers to the employee lounge. The suspects then demanded access to the inventory room and stole an undetermined number of Apple iPhone 5s and Samsung Galaxy S5 cell phones.

Eastern Shore Police Beat: Wicomico Sheriff’s long arm snags armed carjacking suspect in New York

According to Maryland court records, Simpson had been convicted of armed carjacking on April 20, 2004 and sentenced to eight years in prison; and later released on probation, the terms of which he violated in 2011 after an evaluation report was issued by the Baltimore Substance Abuse Systems.

While a resident of the Department of Corrections at Jessup, Simpson had originated a court order to change his name, which a handy way to rid a convicted felon of a criminal record, and the court denied his request, citing his failure to provide a reason why he couldn’t afford the small fee needed to advertise such an action.

Crowds Surge at Ocean City

The cash registers were jingling at thousands of retail stores as shoppers loaded up on groceries and other items needed to fuel families on vacation at the beach this past weekend, throughout the Eastern Shore of Maryland but especially at Ocean City.

The sales tax collection for Gov. Martin O’Malley’s spending programs must have been tremendous while a review of roadside campaign clutter revealed that the big fight between O’Malley’s junior partner and Republican Larry Hogan has yet to catch fire.
