Two men are also charged in connection with the murder: Carlos Portillo, 22, of 60 Princeton Street, Hempstead, N. Y. and Kevin Granados-Coreas, 19, of 259-31 147th Rd., Rosedale, N.Y.  Both men are charged with second-degree murder.

The MS-13 Gang murder was discovered in the Massapequa Preserve near Seaview Avenue and Ocean Avenue.

Police say that the two men killed the victim to gain status in their violent gang. The murder took place in an area where police say security cameras have been added to prevent crime after nude men were reported harassing female joggers on the trails in the park.

An application for a fugitive from justice warrant against Campos was filed in Prince Georges County District Court on Sept. 23, 2017.

Newsday reports that Campos’ arrest is the latest chapter in the ongoing saga between law enforcement and the vicious transnational gang, whose members were allegedly responsible for the brutal slayings of two high school girls in Brentwood last September and four young men in a Central Islip park in April.

Nassau police officials said the motivation behind the killing of Julio Cesar Gonzales-Espantzay, the victim who was lured by Campos, was prominence within the gang via the death of a supposed rival.

“Stature within the group,” Det. Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick of the homicide squad said Friday morning. “They thought he was associated with a rival group, which he was not, but then he basically became a pawn for somebody else to be moving up in stature.”

Police and court documents related that the victim was lured into a car by Campos with the idea he would be smoking pot and having sex with her.
