FAIRFAX POLICE BEAT / Carjacking suspect arrested in Annandale

ANNANDALE, VA. — Fairfax County Police report the arrest of a man after a vehicle crash, carjacking, and robbery in the Annandale area.
A Triangle man is facing charges after a multifaceted incident in Annandale. Officers were called to the 7400 block of Little River Turnpike shortly after 9 this morning for an initial report of a robbery. An investigation determined the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Kelly Christopher Robinson, had been involved in a traffic crash near the intersection of Ravensworth Road and Little River Turnpike.
The rampage continued as officers arrived on the scene when Robinson stole the security officer’s car and began ramming cars in the parking lot and crashing into a building
Robinson ran from the crash scene, along with his dog, toward the Little River Shopping Center where he tried to carjack a woman. The woman was able to get away and find help from a security officer. The security officer confronted Robinson, and an altercation ensued. Our investigation revealed Robinson pulled a knife and demanded the security officer’s keys and cut the security officer. The rampage continued as officers arrived on the scene when Robinson stole the security officer’s car and began ramming cars in the parking lot and crashing into a building. The stolen vehicle eventually came to a stop just before Little River Turnpike.
An Electronic Control Weapon and pepper spray were used to subdue Robinson.
Robinson was challenged by the officers on the scene, who happened to be Crisis Intervention trained. He failed to adhere to the officers’ warnings. An Electronic Control Weapon and pepper spray were used to subdue Robinson. Robinson was taken to an area hospital for evaluation of lacerations that were sustained prior to the officer’s arrival. No police officers were injured. Other people involved requiring medical attention, including Robinson, were all treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Fairfax County Police report that “Detectives are investigating the death of a 46-year-old inmate at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. The man was having a medical emergency and was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Our department investigates all of Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office’s in-custody deaths.”
The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Department reported that on August 18, 2017, at approximately 7:29 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies were alerted to a medical emergency within a general holding block in the Adult Detention Center. A deputy found an unresponsive 46-year old male inmate. Sheriff’s deputies and medical staff immediately started lifesaving measures and called for rescue. The inmate was transported to Fairfax Hospital and subsequently pronounced deceased at approximately 8:17 p.m. Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office policy dictates that an in-custody death must be investigated by the Fairfax County Police Department. The investigation is currently underway. The inmate’s identity will be released pending appropriate notifications.
