WHO IS RUNNING THE RAILROAD?

Officials of Amtrak allow fatality of Trespasser that wandered in front of a train to shut down service for Northeast Corridor for hours on busiest day of year

WILMINGTON, DEL. (Nov. 23, 2016) The fatality of a person that decided to dart out onto the busiest travel day of the year, a fact that is repeated dozens of times each day by the media for the week leading up to Thanksgiving, was allowed to shut the entire rail line between Washington and New York.

According to Delaware State Police Director of Public Information Sergeant Richard D. Bratz, Troopers are currently on the scene of yet another case of deranged people walking out onto train tracks. This incident was involving a pedestrian who was killed after walking into the path of an Amtrak train north of Harmony Road.

Preliminary investigation reveals the incident occurred around 3:43 p.m. this afternoon when a northbound Amtrak commuter train struck a pedestrian that was on the tracks. The subject, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The conductor was able to bring the train to a stop after the collision.

The investigation into this incident is in the early stages, and more information will be released when it becomes available.

Why Amtrak and police officials can’t just take photos of the scene, allow morgue officials to remove the deceased and allow the trains to continue is a question that officials should answer to their customers.  Do police believe that they need to interview anyone?  Unless the train jumped off the tracks and hunted this person down to kill them, someone involved needs to get their heads screwed on right.

At 5:30 pm EST, Amtrak posted this message on its website: Service has resumed between Wilmington/Newark, though trains are operating at reduced speed using one of the three tracks in the area.
