Coast Guard prepares for boarding ship from helicopter with training near Norfolk

(ASSATEAGUE ISLAND, MD) – When a kayaker gets lost and calls for help, her rescue is important to keep her from having to spend the night on a strange beach near Assateague but also diverts important rescue resources from being available for an actual emergency. This story is a class case of kayakers deciding to take to the waves and bays without a clue of what to do.
Preliminary investigation determined that a Nissan Sentra operated by Manuel A. Valencia of 1204 Summerwood Court in Arnold, Md., was southbound on Ritchie Hwy facing a red left turn arrow. The driver of that vehicle turned left towards College Pkwy in the path of a GMC truck that was headed northbound on Ritchie Hwy. The GMC struck the passenger side of the Nissan causing it to overturn. The vehicles eventually came to rest after the GMC pushed the Nissan sideways out of the intersection into the traffic signal support pole
Boating at night is fraught with risk for those uneducated on navigation and safe boating practices. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department reports on two hapless souls who were out for a ride on the water and returning at night-time managed to hit a bridge and rip off the top of their speedboat.
