Six gun HongHong Young of Beltsville charged with being the Mad Shooter of Hanover

HANOVER, MD. — After a series of shootings were reported to police in Anne Arundel County, a suspect was located and placed under arrest, report police. Hong had filed for a divorce in 2014 and earlier this year, court records show the case was dismissed.

Anne Arundel Police say that on March 3, 2015, at approximately 10:27 p.m., two Anne Arundel County Police Tactical Patrol Officers working a surveillance detail as a result of five shots fired incidents over the last week spotted a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle involved in three of those incidents.

Consequently, the officers conducted an investigative traffic stop on the vehicle, a blue 1999 Lincoln Town Car, near Costco in the 7000 block of Arundel Mills Circle in Hanover. Inside of the vehicle, officers located .380 shell casings in plain view along with a .380 semi-automatic handgun, which is the same caliber handgun used in the shots fired incidents. Ballistics testing on the gun and casings preliminarily indicates a match. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle as identified as Hong Young, 35, of 4909 Daisy Creek Terrace in Beltsville, Maryland. Young was taken into custody and subsequent interviews along with the evidence recovered from the vehicle confirmed that he was responsible for all five shots fired incidents in the region. An arrest warrant has since been obtained, charging Young with Attempted First Degree Murder, First and Second Degree Assault, Firearm in the Use of a Violent Felony Crime, Handgun in Vehicle and Reckless Endangerment for the February 24, 2015 incident on Arundel Mills Blvd.

Anne Arundel Police BeatDuring the last week, detectives continued to collect evidence and work the initial cases to determine if they were connected. Several law enforcement agencies shared information throughout the investigation, which is active and ongoing. They continue to collaborate with this investigation. We are still attempting to assess the potential motive of the suspect, but this does not appear to be related to any potential domestic terrorism.

“This case truly was good old-fashioned police work at its finest,” said Anne Arundel County Police Chief Tim Altomare. “Officers shared information and ultimately located and removed this person from the community before he took someone’s life.”

Young is currently being held, under police guard, at a local hospital for treatment.
