Anne Arundel Police Beat: Tips from Photos of Stabbing Suspect Led to Capture of Popeye’s Slasher

Anne Arundel Police BeatLAUREL, MD. Anne Arundel Police report that on Friday, November 21, 2014, an information sought flyer was disseminated via social media and news media with images of the suspect believed to be responsible for a stabbing which occurred on Nov. 20th in Laurel, Md.

 Shortly after posting the images on the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Facebook and Twitter pages, several anonymous callers contacted detectives and provided information that lead to the suspect’s identity.

 On Saturday, November 22, 2014, detectives from the Western District were conducting surveillance in the area of the suspect’s residence. They observed who they believed to be the suspect exiting from his vehicle. Detectives approached the suspect and took him into custody without incident. The suspect was arrested and transported to Western District where he was charged with 1st and 2nd Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment and Use of a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Injure.

On November 20, 2014, at approximately 2:52 p.m., officers from the Western District responded to the 3100 block of Lunar Court in Laurel, Maryland, for a report of stabbing that just occurred.

 Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 37-year-old male victim from Laurel, who advised that he was involved in a verbal argument with an unknown male at the Popeye’s located in the 3300 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road in Laurel.

During that incident, the victim ordered from the drive-thru and proceeded through the parking lot when his vehicle nearly collided with the suspect’s vehicle. Unbeknownst to the victim, the suspect then followed him to his residence and confronted him in his driveway. The male suspect then displayed a small knife and stabbed the victim twice in the upper arm and once in the lower portion of his body.

 The suspect fled the area in a Nissan Maxima towards Russett Green East. Officers, the Aviation Unit and K-9 searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported by fire department personnel to Laurel Regional Hospital. He was treated and released from at the hospital.

 Western District Detectives are actively investigating this incident. Surveillance footage of the suspect and suspect vehicle were captured at another business and are being released to the public in an effort to identify and locate him.  Suspect: Black male in his 40’s, approximately 5’9”, 150 pounds with a light complexion, a short faded haircut, a light beard with gray in it, wearing a white shirt with dark colored stripes down both arms.

 Suspect vehicle: late 90’s to early 2000’s model Nissan Maxima (green in color with a tan interior), possibly with newer Maryland license plates. The vehicle may also have damage to the hood area.
