DOVER, DEL. (Sept. 6, 2014) — The Dover Police Department has arrested one suspect in the shooting that injured a 25-year-old woman and killed a 24-year-old man during the early morning hours of Sunday, August 24th in the Simon Circle development.

After nearly two weeks of pursuing leads and investigating tips, Jakeel Young (18), was developed as a suspect and taken into custody without incident on Thursday, September 4th.  During the investigation of Jakeel Young, it was learned that he possessed a .25 caliber handgun.

The same handgun was recovered by Dover officers on a different person during an unrelated arrest on September 1st, 2014.

Police say that it was learned through the investigation that Young fired this weapon during the Simon Circle incident, striking the 25-year-old victim in the lower body, then fled the area.  Detectives from the Dover Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit are confident that there was two separate shooters during the Simon Circle incident based on ballistics evidence suggesting that the bullet that struck 24-year-old Tyson Henry was a different caliber than the .25 that was possessed by Jakeel Young.

At this time, detectives have developed a person of interest as the second shooter in the Simon Circle homicide and are working diligently to make an arrest.  Throughout the investigation, detectives have learned that there were over 50 people in the area when the shootings took place and are seeking more information from those persons to aid in solving this case.  Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at 302-736-7111 or  call the Delaware Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-800-Tip-3333 or go online at www.tipsubmit.com.
