SILVER SPRING, MD. — Montgomery County Police reports that Detectives from the Montgomery County Police- Major Crimes Division have arrested Calvin Coolidge Cannon III, age 22, of the 14100 block of Castle Boulevard for the May 29 armed robbery of the Papa John’s restaurant located at 1133 East West Highway in Silver Spring.

Cannon displayed a taser to obtain an undisclosed amount of funds from the restaurant. The suspect was later identified and detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Cannon. Cannon was located and arrested without incident on June 26. A search warrant was executed at Cannon’s residence where detectives recovered a taser.

Does this guy look familiar? He should. He robbed this business back on April 5, 2014 and we believe he did it again on June 15, 2014.

On June 15, 2014 the suspect committed an armed robbery of the Red Roof Inn located at 7306 Parkway Drive, Hanover, Western District. The suspect entered the lobby of the hotel wielding a black revolver and demanded money from the safe. The suspect is described as a B/M, 35 to 40 years of age, medium build, 6’01” or 6’02”, 190 to 200 lbs, dark complexion, short hair, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. The same suspect committed an armed robbery at this same location on April 5, 2014.

Aggravated Malicious Wounding | Strong Armed Robbery *ARREST – On June 27th, detectives from the Robbery Unit were able to identify the initial man involved in the assault which was reported to have occurred in the 4600 block of Evansdale Rd in Woodbridge on June 22nd. The suspect was identified as the accused. Following the investigation, detectives obtained warrants against the accused who was arrested by Fairfax County Police later that evening.

Malicious Wounding | Strong Armed Robbery [Previously Released] – On June 22nd at 4:55AM, officers responded to investigate an assault which was reported to have occurred in the 4600 block of Evansdale Rd in Woodbridge (22193).

The victim, a 22 year old man of Woodbridge, reported to police that he was out in front of his residence located in the area above talking with an unknown man. While speaking to that man, he was approached and assaulted by another unknown man. During the encounter, the initial man that the victim was speaking with and a second suspect also began to assault him.

At that point, someone in the group took the victim’s cell phone and an undisclosed amount of U.S. Currency before dispersing. In total, three suspects assaulted the victim, none of which were known to the victim. The victim went to an area hospital for treatment where police were contacted. The injuries sustained by the victim were significant but non-life threatening.

Armed Robbery *ARRESTS – On June 23rd, detectives from the Robbery Unit were able to identify both men involved in the robbery which was reported to have occurred in the 17000 block of Jefferson Davis Hwy in Dumfries on June 20th. The suspects were identified as the accused men listed below. Following the investigation, detectives obtained warrants against both men who were located and arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force in Centreville on June 30th.

Armed Robbery [Previously Released] – On June 20th at 2:20PM, officers responded to the 17000 block of Jefferson Davis Hwy in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a robbery. The victim, a 22 year old man of Woodbridge, reported to police that he arranged a meeting with an unknown man in a parking lot in the area above. Once there, the victim was robbed at gunpoint but the suspect and another man. The man took property from the victim before fleeing on foot. No injuries were reported. This incident was not random.

 

**INCIDENTS**

 

Armed Robbery | Strong Armed Robbery – On June 29th at 3:17AM, officers responded to the area of Dale Blvd and Princedale Dr in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a robbery.

The victim, a 20 year old woman of Woodbridge, reported to police that she was waiting at the traffic light in the above area when she observed an unknown man approach her driver’s side window. The man prevented the victim from rolling up her window, at which point, he reached into the vehicle and grabbed her cell phone.

At the same time, an unknown woman opened her passenger side door. The man then attempted to grab the victim’s purse which was located in the backseat. A struggle ensued and the victim was eventually able to drive away. Minor injuries were reported. The suspects were last seen getting into an unknown vehicle and leaving the area. At 5:14AM, officers received a similar call which was reported to have occurred in the same area around 4:20AM. The victim, a 21 year old woman of Woodbridge, reported to police that she was stopped at the same intersection when she was approached by an unknown man and woman.

The man approached the driver’s side window and attempted to engage the victim while the female went to the passenger side of the vehicle.  Both parties then opened the victim’s doors and took her cell phone and purse before getting in a gray colored vehicle and fleeing the area. When the man initially approached the victim, she observed him holding a handgun. No injuries were reported. Both incidents are believed to be related. The investigation continues.

Black male, between 19 & 20 years of age with a thin build, black shoulder length dreadlocks, and a tattoo on his right arm that extended from his shoulder to elbow

Black female, between 16 & 18 year of age, 5’5”, 140lbs with a thin build and black collar length hair

Malicious Wounding – On June 28th at 7:25PM, officers responded to the area of Anchorage Cove and Olde Port Ln in the Town of Dumfries (22025) to investigate a stabbing. The investigation revealed that the victim, a 27 year old man of Lorton, was involved in a physical altercation with another man in the area above. The altercation escalated and, at one point, the victim was cut with an unknown sharp object by the suspect. The victim was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The suspect fled on foot prior to police arriving in the area. This incident does not appear to be random.

White male, between 25 & 27 years of age, 5’8”, 160lbs with a medium build, brown hair, and tattoos on his neck

Residential Burglary – On June 28th at 11:27AM, officers responded to an apartment located in the 200 block of Broadway St in the Town of Quantico (22134) to investigate a burglary. The resident of the apartment reported to police that the burglary occurred between 7:30AM and 8:30AM. The investigation revealed that there were no signs of forced entry into the home. Entry is believed to have been made through an unsecured door. A cell phone with charger, total value around $150, was reported missing.

 

Residential Burglary – On June 28th at 2:09PM, officers responded to an apartment located in the 3300 block of Yost Ln in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a burglary. The resident of the apartment reported to police that the burglary occurred between 1:30AM and 8:30PM on June 26th. The investigation revealed that there were no signs of forced entry into the home. A camera, gaming console, internet router, jewelry, and a cell phone, total value around $1,800, were reported missing.

 

Residential Burglary – On June 27th at 1:22PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 16500 block of Royal Ct in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a burglary. The homeowner reported to police that the burglary occurred between 8:00AM and 12:00PM. The investigation revealed that there were no signs of forced entry into the home. A handgun, jewelry, and electronics, total value around $10,000, were reported missing.

 

**ARRESTS**

 

Crash – Fatality – On June 24th at 9:02PM, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Sudley Manor Dr and Gentle Shade Dr in Bristow (20136) to investigate a crash involving a pedestrian. The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado was stopped at a posted stop sign on Gentle Shade Dr waiting to make a right turn onto Sudley Manor Dr. Once a vehicle passed, the driver began to accelerate forward. At the same time, two pedestrians began to cross Gentle Shade Dr in a designated crosswalk. The vehicle collided with one of the pedestrians, identified as a 75 year old man. The pedestrian was flown to an area hospital where he died on June 29th as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. At the time of the collision, the driver was charged. The driver remained at the scene of the crash and was unharmed. Alcohol, drug use, and speed are not factors in this collision. Following the investigation, the driver of the vehicle was charged at the time of the collision on June 25th.

Malicious Wounding – On June 29th at 6:06AM, officers responded to a residence located in the 3900 block of Cameron St in the Town of Dumfries (22026) to investigate a domestic assault. The victim, a 34 year old woman of Dumfries, reported to police that she and the accused, a known acquaintance, were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated. During the encounter, the accused repeatedly struck the accused to her face. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries. The accused was at the residence when officers arrived and was detained without further incident. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.

Malicious Wounding – On June 28th at 11:41AM, officers responded to a residence located in the 7400 block of Garrison Rd in Manassas (20110) to investigate an assault. The victim, a 55 year old man of Manassas, reported to police that he and the accused, a known acquaintance, were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated. During the encounter, the accused assaulted the victim and, at one point, retrieved a meat cleaver and struck the victim in the back of the head with the non-sharp side. In the process, the victim was also cut in the leg. Non-life threatening injuries were reported. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.

Unlawful Wounding | Reckless Endangerment – On June 28th at 2:51AM, officers responded to a residence located in the 1700 block of Shady River Ct in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate an assault. The victim, a 21 year old woman of Woodbridge, reported to police that she and the accused, a known acquaintance, were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated. The victim further reported that the accused was under the influence of alcohol. During the encounter, the accused assaulted the victim and then took their child, a 6 month old girl, outside to a vehicle. The victim was able to get into the vehicle and lock the accused outside. At that point, the accused struck the window multiple times until it broke, shattering glass onto the victim and the child. The victim was eventually able to drive away and contact police. Minor injuries were reported. Officers arrived at the home and located the accused. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.

Attempted Malicious Wounding | Assault & Battery – On June 29th at 3:49AM, officers responded to a residence located in the 13900 block of Mathews Dr in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a fight. The investigation revealed that both accused men listed below were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated. During the encounter, one of the men, Jacob VALDEZ-BAUTISTA, retrieved two knives and began to chase the other party. Other residents of the home eventually separated the two men. Officers arrived at the residence and identified both men who are known to one another. Minor injuries were reported. Following the investigation, both parties were arrested.

Felony Hit & Run | Driving under the Influence – On June 29th at 1:13AM, officers responded to the area of Sudley Manor Dr and Rainbow Falls Dr in Bristow (20136) to investigate a crash. The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2003 Toyota Camry, later identified as the accused, was driving on Ribbon Falls Dr when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection with Sudley Manor Dr. The accused subsequently struck a vehicle in the intersection and continued to drive away from the area. Officers eventually located the vehicle and the accused in the area of Ballsford Rd and Wellington Dr. The accused was detained without further incident and was determined to have been under the influence of alcohol. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.

Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On June 28th at 4:51PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 4200 block of Devonwood Way in Woodbridge (22192) for a warrant service. Officers had an active warrant of file for accused who was believed to be at the residence. Once on scene, officer made contact and the accused attempted to flee the home. Officers attempted to detain the accused, at which point, the accused pushed the officer and fled to the backyard of the residence. The accused then attempted to climb a fence in the backyard. Officers again attempted to detain the accused. The accused pushed the officer a second time and attempted to flee. Officers were eventually able detain and arrest the accused. Minor injuries were reported. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.

Grand Larceny – Auto – On June 29th at 2:35AM, a Prince William County police officer stopped a vehicle in the 12400 block of Cavalier Dr in Woodbridge (22192) for a traffic violation. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver fled at a high rate of speed. The vehicle traveled less than a mile before crashing. The driver, later identified as the accused, fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. A police K-9 was used to search for the accused who was eventually located by the K-9. During the investigation, officers determined that the vehicle was stolen and that the accused was wanted on previous charges. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.
