06/30/2014 —Sheriff Roger L. Harris announced the arrest of campground molesting suspect Edward Alsop, 49, of Spotsylvania for the June 15, 2014 sexual battery of a juvenile victim at the Indian Acres campground in Spotsylvania County.

On June 15, 2014 Spotsylvania County Deputies responded to a 911 call to the Indian Acres Campground, located in the 6400 block of Morris Road. The caller advised that his seven year old son had been sexually attacked by an unknown subject, brandishing a knife in the bathroom, near the spot where the victim’s family was camping for the weekend. Indian Acres security personnel had already begun establishing a perimeter and checking all vehicles approaching the main entrance and exit of the facility.

Deputies, along with security personnel, began a sweep of the area, looking for a vehicle that matched the description given by the victim and his brother, (who had witnessed the suspect jump into a pickup truck and leave the scene). Detectives from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office CID Division also responded and conducted a forensic examination of the crime scene.

Detectives additionally received assistance from the Indian Acres Security personnel in reviewing the video footage of the area. Security personnel had already begun retrieving the footage in an effort to aid Deputies in locating and identifying the suspect.

Based upon the footage provided by security, Detectives were able to identify the driver of the truck based off the security footage. The seven year old victim was additionally able to provide Detectives with a detailed description of what the suspect was wearing. When the suspect was ultimately located by Detectives in Indian Acres on June 19, 2014; He was still wearing the same clothing, described by the victim and his brother.

The suspect, (Alsop), was also in possession of a distinctive knife, described by the victim. Alsop was charged with felony Aggravated Sexual Battery and misdemeanor Assault and Battery. He was ordered held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail with no bond.

Sheriff Harris noted the excellent work done by the Deputies, Detectives and Security personnel at the scene.

He also related that “the cooperative efforts between law enforcement and corporate security personnel led to the successful resolution of this case and the arrest of a dangerous criminal”.
