DWI/Police Impersonator Arrest

SEVERNA PARK, MD. Anne Arundel County Police report that on Sunday June 15, 2014, at approximately 2:02 a.m., officers responded to the Taco Bell restaurant located in the 500 block of Ritchie Highway in Severna Park for an intoxicated driver in the drive-thru.

Upon arrival, officers observed a Mercedes 300D with the operator blowing the horn repeatedly. Upon making contact with that driver, identified as Robert Knickerbocker, officers detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the operator’s breath and noticed that his eyes were glassy and his speech was mumbled and slurred. The operator exited the vehicle and identified himself as a police officer with the Maryland Natural Resources Police. The officers then conducted a series of field sobriety tests on the operator, including requests to maintain his balance, which he performed poorly on.

Further investigation revealed that the operator was not a police officer. It was learned that he ordered food, but refused to pull up in the drive-thru as requested by an employee. He then began to act in a belligerent manner by blowing on his horn and cursing, which facilitated the police call for service. The suspect was ultimately was placed under arrest and transported to Northern District Station.  The suspect was issued five traffic citations and charged with DWI and impersonating a police officer.
