LA PLATA (September 8, 2013) — What is a Saturday night in the hood without a little gunfire?
For Melvin Wayne Brown, who stopped a bullet, say police, it was a mat ter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
On September 7 at 11:50 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Popes Creek Court in La Plata (Phoenix Run neighborhood) for the report of the sound of gunshots. Officers canvassed the area and found the victim, Brown, 31, of Indian Head, on the ground in between two vehicles in the 600 block of Pomonkey Way; he had been shot and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Detectives with the CCSO Criminal Investigations Division responded and are working to establish a motive.
